iPhone
   History

The phone that changed the world.
(2007-2018)

iPhone 1

The impact the iPhone has had on the smartphone market is astronomical. By creating the keypad for a touchscreen and adding computer-like aspects that had never been seen before, it set the standard smartphones to come.  "Apple is going to reinvent the phone," said Steve Jobs at the time, and he was right - but the original iPhone had no third-party apps, no GPS and no video recording.

iPhone 3G

Missing from the original iPhone was 3G support (the top data speed of the time.) By the 3G model people were really starting to see its long-term potential. It finally had not only 3G support, but GPS and the App store. This was a watershed moment in smartphone history.

   iPhone 4

The iPhone 3G seems like a small step forward compared to the iPhone 4. This was a big one.  It had a new, sleek, modern look. Also, they massively increased the pixel count while keeping the same 3.5-inch display size. This was the first Retina display. It was also the first iPhone with a front-facing camera, multitasking, and a rotating screen.

   iPhone 5

Much like the 4, the iPhone 5 was a major upgrade. It added an extra row of icons with an extra-tall screen, introduced the Lightning connector, and had lighter aluminium casing. On the iOS side, we got our first look at Apple Maps, taking over Google Maps as the default option.

   iPhone 6

As well as another design revamp, the iPhone 6 extended the display size to 4.7 inches and added in more pixels. Also worth noting is the introduction of NFC for Apple Pay and other services, plus a significant upgrade for the camera, giving better photo and video results than ever before.

    iPhone 7

The iPhone 7 was what we expected - one of the best phones ever and a strong match for the rival Galaxy S7. It was priced at a premium level and of course Apple still sold millions. The camera had improved quite a bit, but the one dissapointment seemed to be that there was barely any cosmetic changes to the physical phone itself.

   iPhone 8

The iPhone 8 may look similar to the 6 and 7, but some nice changes were made to draw people in. The most obvious is the glass back, which not only looks more sleek and modern, but also allows wireless charging. Also, Apple made sure to upgrade the speed and volume of the phone by 25%.
